My Wacom Inkling arrived and it is AWESOME. I haven’t had too much time to play with it since I’ve been busy with work and stuff but I’ll have more time to play with it next month. I had my friend Todd try it out. The drawing you see on the left is a scan of the actual drawing he made on paper with the pen. The image on the right is an .jpg exported .ai file from the Inkling. But keep in mind…the Inkling records that drawing as a vector, so each line can be manipulated and enhanced, individually in Illustrator. The Inkling also automates your drawing in it’s proprietary software, so you can see a timelapse of your drawing.
When I tried it out on a couple drawings, I could see where the digital capture wasn’t exactly the same as the actual drawing, but I think it had more to do with me holding the pen wrong and me still trying to get used to it. Also, you can see in the picture comparison above, that it isn’t exactly the same. However, since the Inkling capture is vectorized, you can make little tweaks in post. Still a great tool.
Pretty awesome. Can’t wait to check out the possibilities for animation with this little guy. I’ll post more once I get more time to fiddle with it.
