Oh Jake.
(Also found this video gem in my archive of footage I shot from the summer.)
So, my dad went to the Philippines on Wednesday to attend my grandmother’s funeral that was supposed to be on Friday. But it rained so badly a bunch of bad things happened and she couldn’t get buried. According to the news, a months worth of rain fell on Manila within the span of 12 hours. That’s insane. It was so flooded my dad’s family was stuck under an overpass for 6 hours as it flooded around them. My aunt’s car got carried by the flood and hit a tree and was wrecked. They had to seek shelter at a relative’s home that was at a higher elevation. The cemetery wouldn’t bury anyone because the soil was too wet. Everything my dad has been relaying sounds like absolute chaos.
“Rescuers are stepping up efforts in the Philippines, a day after Tropical Storm Ketsana triggered deadly floods in the capital, Manila, and several other provinces with the heaviest rainfall in more than 40 years.
Disaster officials said the death toll stood at 73 on Sunday, while up to 330,000 residents have been displaced.”

Hopefully, I won’t have to do another one of these for a while…they take up so much time.
I had a day to myself to recover from this last 2 weeks of craziness. I spent the day editing for work and making some music…and doing a really awful version of a good song. Sometimes I wish I was more into creating music, like I was before I started making films. Oh well. I plugged the calculator into the stylophone, huzzah! And I played with my loop station.

I don’t think I’ll ever grow out of my childhood…
…and I don’t need any movie to remind me of that.
I got paid for one of my freelancing projects, so that money automatically went towards new grip gear that I need for shoots. I have at least 3 shoots (16mm at least once) a week so I need to be prepared. Here’s a couple of the things that are new additions to my cam/gaff/grip bags. And yes, that’s a full apple box…my VERY OWN apple box! And yes that calculator is also a synthesizer. And sadly I’m trying to save up to replace my trust old light meter with a spot or combo light meter.
I’m not going to lie, being a woman and having a bag full of this stuff is empowering.
